Windows Process Activation Service (WAS) error 13 data is invalid

 Была обнаружена проблема на Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, установленном на Windows Server 2008 R2. Перестала работать Exchange Management Console. Покопавшись в логах, обнаружил ошибку запуска службы World Wide Web Publishing Service. При запуске вылетает ошибка "System error 1068 has occurred. The dependency service or group failed to start". Служба зависит от Windows Process Activation Service, которая также не запускается -  Error 13 data is invalid. В логах Windows нашел следующее

The Windows Process Activation Service encountered an error trying to read configuration data from file ‘\\?\C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\config\schema\NetFx40_IIS_schema_update.xml’, line number ’1′. The error message is: ‘Configuration file is not well-formed XML’. The data field contains the error number.

Эта ошибка связана с IIS. Но при каких-либо изменениях в IIS, создается бэкап в C:\inetput\history.  Чтобы решить данную проблему, необходимо из C:\inetput\history\schema скопировать файл NetFx40_IIS_schema_update.xml в C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\config\schema\

Готово! Теперь можно запускать обе службы.
